We’re here at my atelier aka my garage studio where creative things happen. The studio is normally in Los Angeles though of course it travels wherever I go and today I’m in Hong Kong the city of my birth. And that brings us to “Format”.
Format is a graphic design studio in Hong Kong started by my uncle and carried on by my mother. I’ve borrowed that name from time to time and here’s another great opportunity. There are different meanings to the word and you’ll find them all showing up at some point.
With this substack I’m creating a format to share film, music and ideas.
Film - I’m a film producer of 20+ years here to share both mine and other people’s ideas on the future of non-dependant film. The future is filmmaker led distribution. Let’s go. I’m in process of making and releasing different projects and this will be a place to talk about those in a candid case study way. I teach documentary producing at USC Cinematic Arts and I’m going to dive into what I do there as well.
Music - I’m a music selector and collector here to share sounds that will get you moving through your day.
Ideas - I’ve been generating ideas all my life and here’s to sharing them. I have ideas for films and even products that I’m not going to follow through with but I think they are great and maybe if I share them here you’ll pick ‘em up and run with ‘em. No point hoarding ideas.
